DANIEL, if I had some prize to award you, you would surely get it. Thanks
to WeAreAs1 and Terry for their suggestions as well. You were all right,
the culprit was right around the 4051, but turned out to be a transistor.

So I found I was fresh out of gen. purpose NPN transistors... so 1 $.59
radio shack (yack! sorry paul ;) 3904 later, I have a working midi2cv
which doesn't give flat notes when I depress the key.

I am very much in bliss, controlling my modular wackiness and sh-101
synonymously. Must.. write... new.... tracks...

Andrew

PS: I shorted a few 80C31's in my time as a DIYer too... until I made the
wise investment of an antistatic wrist strap. A $20 item which will save
you infinite hours of frustration. No more 'remember-to-touch-
the-case-before-the-component' trick either :)
