I don't think it is as complicated as it sounds. Just one VCO FMing another. In non-modular Rolands
and Moogs, this was exponential, and in one direction only (i.e. VCO1 could FM VCO2, but not vice
versa). The Octave Cat is a synth that has true cross mod, where VCO1 can FM VCO2 while VCO2 FMs
VCO1. Impossible to use for a pitched scale, but some truly great noises can be generated this way.
