Tape delays

on the subject of tape delays... (as the subject says..)

here is my idea... let me know what people think.

1)  take a normal tape recorder
2)  use a pre-looped tape from an answering machine.
3)  modify the tape recorder's erase head only.
 3a)  modifications would include a knob that would control the amount of
erase, so that partial erase would cause older sounds to decrease, while newer
sounds are louder, or you could turn the erase to '0' for an infinite
delay/loop...

well either way, I'm gonna try it and see what's up...

for the erase head, I'm assuming that you could simply vary the voltage to it
or would it require more than this?
