I use a piezo (radioshack $1.79 model, sorry no catalog here) made by
Murata. I leave it in the plastic case, and enlarge the hole in the
center (to about 1/4") exposing the element. I epoxy a pellet from a
.177 cal pellet gun (a wadcutter which has a flat nose - good mech.
contact) and use it. The weight gives a much lower resonant frequency.
response is not flat but good for all sorts of mechanical pickup (drums
etc) I have used it on a Kalimba also. Good luck - try it - its cheap
