On making a cabinet in NYC

Thanks to many of your helpful suggestions, I have just completed building
a small wooden cabinet/box housing for an old custom made EML synthesizer.
It's face was cut to an odd size (28 x 10) and had holes drilled out that
didn't match up with any standard rack mount rails.
I won't bother you with all the details but it came out pretty nice
considering. I am not covering it with vinyl/tolex, as some here suggested,
since it is not going to travel and I kind of like the wood finish.
Two valuable resources I found here in Manhattan for getting the job done:
Space Surplus Metal Inc./325 Church St. (just off Canal) sells scrap metal
and will cut long pieces down to any size while U wait. Very cheap too!
Canal Hi Fi/319 Canal St. has hinges, latches, handles, corner pieces, and
other hardware that is not so easy to find all in one place.
Thanks again to all who responded for the advice.
