I would dearly love a new scope...
I have on *OLD* techtronix scope.. I noticed that the time base generator 
and the input circuits are infact modules.. I unscrewed them and to my 
disgust I found ONE transistor.. I was most upset I though it was ALL 
valve.. but to find one transistor in the timebase generator amongst valves 
etc I was upset.. hehe..
no pcb either! all wires and some kind of plastic arrangement.. I will take 
a photo of the two modules, just to scare everyone about how "professional" 
electronics used to be... hehehe
