errrr, you dont need 0.5uS... that woulgive you a playback rate of 2MHZ... 
if you're talking audio say you have a 6KHZ waveform (ouch thats high) and 
say 128bytes perwave, this is 768Khz this means you could use a 1us settling 
time dac.. but how high do you wanna go?
think about it at this frequency most of the harmonics will be inaudible 
anyhow.. I used a DAC0800 for mine, works fine, sounds great and its cheap 
too :-), the output frequency goes up more than high enough for me.
