More ramblings about VCDO...

I need an opinion. My VCDO is going to clock at about 2 MHz. But this means that
my output DAC has to settle in about 0.5 uS. I looked around for 16-bit 0.5 uS
D/As and OUCH! I do not want to spend $50 US on the converter. So my question is
this: How do you all feel about 12, 10, or even 8 bits for the output DAC? I
cringe at the thought of stooping to 8 bit DACs. I have ordered samples of some
slower 12-bit DACs that will reduce my clock speed down to 500 kHz. Yuck. The
search continues..
