DIL package disappearing? (was: CA3046 replacement)

Yep, Ive done this repairing system boards with blown line drivers..
but one problem remains for diy'ers..

where do you get the strip-board for these little buggers?
This is they main bug bear.. what I tend to do is make a rats nest design to 
itron out major problems and let me play with values of components... stuff 
it on strip board to give it a good test.. then design a PCB.
