:::I was thinking of makeing some "tubular bells" with clear perspex
:::(illuminated from the top) with a XTAL earpeice as the pickup.
:::
:::When you strike it two things happen;
:::
:::1) the xtal generates a signal, amplify/fullwaverectify and bingo one
:::trigger that is velocity sensative (harder you hit it, the bigger the CV),
:::all you need is a S&H to sample the CV whe its above a certain level and
:::hold it until the next time.
:::2) This is my daft extra, the perspex is lit by a bulb, that gets bright
:::then fades as you you hit it... eat your heart out JMJ!!!
:::
:::Paul full of stupid ideas

I recently toyed arround with piezo/midi triggers.
It is also interesting to use the piezo spike as input for
those cheezy drum box resonator circuits, this should
work as well. These circuits are in my first electronics
book that I bought with 15 or so.
