solder directly to stripboard.

I know that I am in a minority position here... but look at it this way, if you
solder straight to the stripboard, you can have any number of bits of
circuit around the place (oh yes, here's that non-inverting level shifter I made
2 weeks ago!).
Also, you can drop the ckt with nothing falling out.
And, the sockets wont wear out.
And, you wont have as much stray capacitance everywhere.

But, best of all, when your prototype works, you just put it in a box! ;-)
