Hi Mark,
I prefer the pad per hole approach as it allows more options for component
placement. Where possible just join two components together by placing them
in adjacent holes and bending the component lead over. Where the components
are a distant apart I use bright blue wire wrap wire, It's easier to see
than most other colors.
Simple power supplies are easy to make if you have a schematic. ( using a
7815 and 7915) or Paia used to have a power supply kit, don't know if they
still do.
