The PCB thing is something you have to decide for yourself, as it goes to
personal preference. I like pad-per hole, others like the 3-hole plus rail
setup. Perhaps you can get some of each and try it out? As for power supplies,
junk stores are excellent for this kind of thing. I like to buy linear +/- 12v
Power-One supplies. They can be adjusted up to +/- 15V and are quite clean. Or
you can build your own. Check out Jung's Op Amp Cookbook. It has a good section
on how to build power supplies out of op amps and pass transistors. Or use
LM317/LM337 adjustable regulators.
