Y-ellow Y'all.
If you think that's bad. The government here has just passed a rather
Draconian law that will see a huge proportion of Australian web sites being
forcibly removed. Or forcibly re-located to a server in another country
somewhere.

I'm currently looking for someone to host my site but I can't afford
anything so far. Apart from Email, the net will be practically useless to
Australians now. Considering that by law we are no longer allowed access to
any information that could be deemed coercive of subversive. One of their
targets is DIY stuff because apparently it encourages school kids to build
bombs.

The process of filtering will slow the net down as a whole in this country
and due to the net's topology here that slow-down could be significant. The
designated filter systems block web sites with words such as "Toy" or
"Breast" Not only does that block sites which mention breast in a sexual
context but also sits containing information for the support of women with
breast cancer, and even anyone looking for "whole breast chicken pieces."

Our news server here is already taking a beating only a few days after the
legislation passed into law. I can no longer access the drug information I
need to keep my medical conditions in check. Or at least keep my quality of
life stable.

I am currently expecting to receive a 24 hour take down notice on my web
site. This could take some time however. Because the ABA aren't set up to
handle the flood and also because it will take them time to realize that
although my site is registered in America, it's actually hosted here. But
my Geek stories and the front page finger will undoubtedly cause them to
order me to take the side down under pain of a 27,000 dollar fine if I don't.

Australia is now the laughing stock of the IT world. It's only suitable for
dumb asses who wouldn't have a clue about the freedoms they just lost.
Anything thinking seriously of investing in Australia should be advised
that as business becomes increasingly reliant on IT, doing business with or
within Australia will become increasingly unreliable. In the week that the
legislation was passed Australia lost over 240 million dollars worth of
business investment and 50 or more IT jobs.

Basically the law says that adults are expected to run net-nanny either at
home or be forced to by the ISPs server. We are not allowed any freedom of
speech and the legislation not only contravenes 3 Australian US trade
agreements but it also contravenes resolutions put forth by the UN. Still
this fascist government stuck their fingers up at the rest of the world and
effectively nobbled the rights of every Australian.

It has effectively screwed me personally. It's screwed the plans of my
record company and will probably priced us all out of business. So if
there's anything on the AEK site you want, you'd better get it now.

I don't like spam but I can deal with it. But governments have no place on
the net what so ever. The real fear is that once other governments realize
what the Australian government have done, it could well be the thin edge of
the wedge.

Be absolutely Icebox.
