I remember reading an article years ago in Guitar Player
where a guy had built a fretless guitar. The sustain
wasn't so good so he figured out a way to use one of
the existing pickups as a driver. Though I don't know
how this approach would work for multiple strings.

This is also interesting from the viewpoint of adding
distortion and/or filtering to the feedback loop, allowing
different harmonics to evolve over time.
