Since the topic has been brought up, I've been thinking for a long time about
changing out all the LM301s in the audio path of my ARP 2600 because they have
always sounded very noisy to me. I had always thought of using a TL071 or
possibly some OPxx part, with Jurgen's points being well taken of course. I'm
hoping someone would have some insight into this (Good, Bad or Ugly), though I
have no plans of doing this in the immediate future.

Any thoughts are appreciated!

Why not use the Philips NE 5534 instead? It has one third the noise of the TL071 (4 nV/Hz). The slew rate is the same (13 V/us). It also has a higher output drive capability. Can drive headphones directly!
The NE 5532 is a dual verision in a standard 8 pin package. Same spec except the slew rate for some reason is a little lower (9 V/us).
