Hello,

Although I've never even seen a Buchla 400, I've worked on lots of other
equipment that has had similar symptoms. It's often one of two things: 1)
Cold/old solder connection on board that makes contact once metal expands a
little bit. 2) Intermittent wire bond inside semiconductor package {IC or
Tranny}). By far # 1 is the most common and we could never proove # 2 -
just hypothesized.

Either way, resoldering the circuit board (especially where components heat
up) frequently fixes # 1 or breaks # 2 the rest of the way so the bad part
can be traced down reliably. You can also try flexing the circuit board
(gently!) or tapping on parts to track down the trouble area.

Just an idea,

Buck
