I have found that the NTE cross reference part works perfectly in the ENS-76
VCO Option 1. The number is NTE-466. You can find the NTE catalog parts at a
lot of electronics stores. I just bought 8 of these at Fry's Electronics for
a couple bucks each.

I think that this part, along with the LM311 and the tempco, put this VCO
into the catagory of "made from almost but not quite easy to obtain parts".
However I believe that it's really the best VCO you can make for the effort.

A close second would be the 3080-based tri-square EN-76 VCO (I forget the
option number, it's the one with the 3080 integrator and the 3080 schmitt
trigger). You have to do a little more building to get a sawtooth out of it,
but the triangle is really pristine. It has the same kind of expo converter
except the trannys are PNP rather than NPN, and the same tempco
requirements. If you have a way to get 3080's easily, this VCO would fall
into the catagory of "made from easy to obtain parts". Except for that
stinkey tempco.
