ribbon controllers

Hi there, it's me again :o)

I was wondering if there is some good info
on ribbon controllers around somewhere.
How they work, how to make, where to find,
and such DIY related info.

I'm going to have a joystick on my school-
synth-project (from one of those radio 
control thingys they fly their model 
airplanes with), and it'll be neat.

But it'd also be cool to have a ribbon ;->

Has anyone done this before?
