Well, you all know that I have repeatedly stated that the SSM2040 low pass
is
my favorite filter ever.
Nevertheless, I think an SSM2040 is *not* worth 30 Dollars for a DIY
project.
I would surely spend 30 Dollars if Ihad a Rev. 2 Prophet with one defunct
VCF
chip, because there is not much of an alternative. But for DIY ? That's
insane.
Build the replacment from hy homepage if you want that famous sound and
if you have enough PCB space. Don't get me wrong: I don't say the *price*
is
insane - in fact I would not even sell one of my own 2040s for that price.
I just
say don't buy them for that price for new projects, even if there are 400
out there.
You neither do yourself a favor (at that price), nor does it any good to
Prophets
and Kobols that might desperatly need one at some time.

Just my opinion, of course. All I can offer is a free schematic of a
replacement
circuit (;->).
