Yeah, you need a sine wave generator in the VCO, or at least a good triangle
wave. You can try to filter more complex waveforms, but it's easier to start
with the simple waves. As was said, a ring modulator (balanced modulator)
will help give it a real spooky sound. These modulators are pretty simple to
make, a couple dollars worth of parts.
