-currently a sophomore at UCSD in EE (of course). during breaks i intern at
Los Alamos National Laboratory (home of the atomic bomb), in the group
"LANSCE-9: High Power Microwave Sources and Effects, Advanced Accelerators
and Electrodynamics". Basically lots of pulsed power (explosive and
traditional), high-power RF source development (reltrons, etc.) and so on.
I personally do most of my work on R&D of a "Spatially Modulated Non-linear
dielectric transmission line system", wherein we are trying to use
non-linear dielectrics to turn fast pulses into trains of high-frequency
solitons in an all solid-state system. right now we mostly test prototype
solid-state high-power switches (Pulsed power Thyristors, MOS-Controlled
Thyristors, etc.) and hassle ceramics companies right now... being the
student on the project, i actually spend most of my time hacking with messy
C code written by some guy at Oxford and reverse-engineering LabVIEW GPIB
drivers for archaic HP scopes that pre-date the GPIB protocol..

but the money is pretty good..
