ODP: Digital DIY synths?

I can't say 16-bit A/D/As are expensive. I buy them for 4-10$, and they
sometimes are dual (or stereo if you like)
As for DAC-based envelope - in my Poly i use 7-bit control voltage, and
when I tweek, say VCF cutoff, the steps are not only noticable,
but anoying
