Yes it should not be common to receive 20 gifs of 50k size.
There is something to say about images:
If we would restrict ourselves to images with only 16 colors and only in 
gif format we could spice up the otherwise excellent discussions with
smaller images, without wasting too much bandwidth.
My personal idea is that the sender must try to conserve bandwidth as much
as possible. A file greater than 50k is better suited to be put on a
web-server.
And don't forget the possibility that another one might put it up somewhere, 
if the sender doesn't do a webpage.

Basically this is the Idea of Martin Czechs "Unofficial DIY Archive"
All posts are archived in certain intervals, and there is a list of URLs of
listmembers as well. Martin did check all the links if they are working!!
