Digital Stuff

Hi,
        Can anybody point me towards some stuff of designing synths and
other musical stuff with DSPs. Can you reccomend and DSP evaluation kits,
that have the power to do that kind of thing, and have D/A converters
on-board (maybe even A/D as well), but also have documentation, and info on
how to program them (I have experience with PICs)
