Was this an early MS-20 or a later model ?
I only played early ones (with Korg-35 ICs), and they were
quite noisy (more than my Mono/Poly). I never played
a later MS-20, but they have LM13600-based filters and
a deemphasis (470us, 6dB) after the VCA (where is the
preemphase counterpart ??), and they are said to be 
more quiet.
