I wonder where those 'beautiful girls in Wisconsin' are now?
For those who don't get it: this is a reference to a brand of reverb
tank that said something like "made with care by beautiful girls in
Wisconsin" on the side. Anybody know what company this was or what
happened to them?

That would probably be a nice improvement, but no, both the driver
mechanism and pickup are set up for transverse waves, not torsional or
longitudinal waves.
tranverse: perpendicular to the length of the spring
longitudinal: back and forth along the length of the spring
torsional: rotating the spring
