Chip recommendations for VCO's or discreate?

I am wanting to make a sound efx box and probably use cv from my Octave Cat
as a keyboard controller.

Should I try discreate components or use a chip?

Dual oscillator chips still avalible?

Someone has suggested TomG's page... however I don't know where that is.

Other suggestions?  Cheap of course.
