you might find it hard to get decent 2.5 sockets, or 3.5 for that matter.
Really, in modulars, CONNECTION IS ALL. Really.

BTW, I have 500 spare tiny 3.5 pcb mount jacks bought in error from a 
chinese catalog (yeah, never buy from a photo! unless there is a ruler in it!)
but I wouldn't be doing anyone a favour letting them build a modular with them.
