Well, I've built some of the projects in that book, and the metronome 
would have to be the easiest, but as a useful device it isn't that great 
(unless you need a simple clicking metronome).  I'd recomend the "tube 
sound fuzz"... it's pretty simple, and it's based around a 4049 hex 
inverter chip, which I think is pretty common.  A lot of the other projects 
call for the raytheon 4739 dual op-amp which isn't in production anymore, 
so you'll wind up having to do some "creative wiring" to another dual 
op-amp chip.  Anyway, that's my recomendation... if you don't need a 
fuzz, you may want to pick another project.  As I recall, Craig Anderton 
has all of the projects in that book rated by "beginer", "intermediate", 
etc.
