Jeeeez Chris! Practice on something really worthless. Like a broken
cassette deck or something. Be really careful cutting and prying you could
break traces that would be hard to fix. Your iron may not be hot enough.
Old solder is flux deficient. Get a little can of rosin solder flux and
brush a little on and then heat the solder until it becomes molten. If it
doesn't flow add more flux before using your wick or bulb. Be careful not 
to heat the board too much. Mouser sells a "Flux pen" 533-0186 for about 
$4.00. Clean up the flux with a Q-tip and alcohol.
