The panel LED's are likely being strobed, and are not actually lit by
continuous current.  This is how it's done in just about every synth there is.
The strobing happens fast enough that the light appears to be constant.  The
new program code has likely changed the "strobe time" of the LED's.  If the
strobe time has been shortened, then the LED's would appear to be brighter.
