Proper trace cutting technique?

Hello all,
I have been searching the web for information on how to properly make
trace cuts, and have yet to find anything helpful. So far all I know is
that I should use an X-Acto stencil blade that is angled at 45 degrees.
Other than that, can anyone here elaborate on the proper technique or
provide any URLs that would contain this? For example, do you only make
one cut, or do you make two cuts close together and then remove the
sliver of copper trace between the cuts, etc.?
Thanks very much for any help,
Brett D
