dr110 sync mod

hi all hope i'm not breaching protocol here.

i was wondering if anyone would be so kind as to walk me through the
dr110 sync mod since i'm not getting any response from my interpretation
of the schematics at http://www.geocities.com/researchtriangle/9730

i'm not well versed in electronics, but i did just bring the thing back
to life by changing a chip, so i've got a little practical experience
and i'm reasonably sure i've got everything right but no dice..

considerations:
the midi jack: i've got it hooked up as in the illustration with the
ground from the middle point.. not sure why the middle point is nubmered
#2.. do i have it wrong? sohuld i ground the sleeve for this jack too?

ground: first off.. i've got the wiring inside the dr110 tight. simple..
the closed circuit jack works perfectly as a switch. i've got the ground
in the dr110 running through to the ground in the sync mod.. is this
kosher? it looks like that's the way it's supposed to be in the
diagram..

chip: i'm running the chip, exactly as described, ie dual d-type flip
flop et c. et c. from radio shack.. kosher?

resistors.. the 10k is 1/4 watt, the others 1/2 watt.. shouldn't make a
difference, right?

power supply: i've got a 4.5v dc adapter as per the description, got my
polarity right.. tried two different adapters..

sooo.. if anyone can walk me through this.. it's a simple 1 chip, 2
resistor (don't need the third one coz i've got the power supply sorted)
3 jack schematic.. what could be simpler? why no go??

gratefully,
xoxos..
