I'm taking a (very technical) course on tele-media (video stuff) in art
school, as well as working with synths in my spare time, which naturally
leads to expiramentation ;) i havn't done any controlled expiraments to
find out exactlly whats going on, but i've used and oscillator, a nintendo
and a TV to display some interesting effects.. when the VCO is set to about
mid way, white lines float up the screen in a pattern similiar to the sound,
which is also comes through the tv speakers. As i turn up the freq, there is
more lines and they move faster. As the freq gets beyond the range of
hearing it starts to distort the sound of the video game and create some
insane moire-like patterns on the screen... interesting stuff :)
btw: you can also see moire patterns when you record images off of TV with a
video camera
