Hi Martin!

I recently read a review of a software Plugin which does exactly
what you are coding. After a quick search in my library I found the
issue. The Direct-X plugin is called Sonic Foundry Acoustic Mirror
http://www.sonicfoundry.com/Products/
You might already know this software (even downloaded the demo), in
this case you don't have to read following lines:
Basically it applies a given impulse response to your audio signal.
This impulse response can be one of 200 included in the package, but
you can use your own also. Instructions are given on how to record them
using the pseudo-random method and later "Recover" (they call it) the
impulse response.
Additionally, some other parameters can be tweaked (Response width,
Response delay, Pan, Low-Shelf, High-Shelf, Dry-Wet Mix...)
Sadly the software requires a very high-specced PC, although it has a
kind of Quality/Speed balance.

This convolution method is also widely used to simulate microphones (either
very expensive or very crap ones) and Guitar Amps (or loudspeakers). Roland
and Digitech make such devices.

Hope this info is helpful
Of course DIY is always more rejoicing, or should it be CIY (Code it
yourself:)
