Tube questions

Would there be any way to (cost effectively) have a switching matrix to route 
the modulation and signal paths?  It's been done in normal analog synths, why 
not a tube synth?  

You'd have the benefit of being able to leave the signals at full level, and 
avoid being killed making your patches...
