Hi Terry:

I own a laser designed this way.  It uses a krypton arc lamp at one focus
of a gold plated elliptical cavity, and a Nd:YAG laser rod at the other
focus.  The whole cavity is flooded with deionized water, circulating
through a heat exchanger.  The light transfer from one focus to the other
is very good, but not quite 100%, as there are some shadowing effects from
the lamp and the rod.
