If you are talking about balanced audio, then the answer is a resounding
"NO".  don't misinterpret this as the "Kablooie!" kind of no, just a bad
gamble for hum.

You [may] or [may not] want to tie signal gnd to chassis [the term "ground
loop" may ring a bell here], so don't commit yourself by hard-wiring it
into your cabling. And even if you do wish to tie them together, it is much
better to do so at *one* point, not at every node.
