Video2000 was not by Sony but by Philips. Betamax is Sony.
I don't know who invented VHS.

Apparently Video2000 did not make it because Philips refused 
to produce tapes with porn :) I still have an old V2000 recorder,
which could do stripeless slow motion and single frame 10 years
ago, and could record up to 8 hours on one cassette.

Philips had a way with strange marketing decisions, creating
DCC when everyone was ready for the recordable CD.
