Hi ,
just my own views on this subject, before I get flamed .I think that as
technology progresses , and the density of intergration increases , it
get harder to reproduce it .
So for example " In general " its harder to repair an instrument that
uses ic's rather than transistors ,because it is easier to get an
equivalent for a transistor than a custom ic .
Also its easier [ in terms of getting spare parts ] to repair an
instrument like a Harpsichord as its possible to manufacture the spares
.
I don't mean that Harpsichord repair is easy ,
I just mean in terms of availability of spare parts .
I'm not sure where all the software synths leave us ?
maybe there will be enough developements to enable very good recreations
of the analogue synths to be produced, so that most music can be made
using these synths [ whatever form they take ] , but there will still be
some surviving instruments about as well .
