No, it was a fairly large hit. It was popular here in Sweden too. The artist was called Napoleon something. I have the original 45. I think it is from the late 60s.
It was probably the first rap and drum machine record ever.
It was of course years before drum machines were invented. So he used tape loops to get that mechanical drum sound.
Talk about being ahead of the times!
