CA3045 vs. CA3046

    The CA3045 is a wide temp range (military) CA3046.  The CA3045 came in a
ceramic package.  These parts are out of production (CA3045 not CA3046), so your
friend has a relatively rare object.  Other than the above, there really isn't
much difference.  I am not sure how differently the CA3045 would perform in a
heated converter application.  The ceramic package does disipate heat a lot
better than the plastic one, so to get to any particular temerature, it may take
a little more power unless you take steps to insulate it thermally from the
surrounding (foam housing, etc).
