This makes sense. Pentode has much higher output
impedance, hasn't it ? Driving the load from an 
almost-current-source will would reduce errors from
the noisy positive "reference voltage".
Without (or only with slight) feedback, that is.

And when you start to apply voltage feedback (to
reduce the output impedance of the pentode), the
pentode would still win over the triode in terms of
hum reduction because of the higher loop gain.

At least that's what feels reasonable to me.
