Y-ellow y'all.

[Various comments on the virtues of MD snipped]

I don't wish to draw this out because I've moved on to other things but
I'd just liked to say that I think you're missing the point.

Regardless of what you personally may find useful about MD, It is by and
large dud technology. It failed miserably in the market place and is
generally acknowledged such. But because Sony now own the "Content" as well
as the "means of delivery", they feel safe in pushing their investment onto
the public whether they want it or not. Which was Sony's plan all along. If
it weren't for this, MD would have died a death totally already. They just
weren't prepared to see their own corporate and technological shortcomings
go the same way that BETA video did.

And take the case of DVD. Where now, Sony feel squeezed out of the market.
So what do they do? Try to introduce their own DVD standard and thrust it
upon the world. A DVD standard that is largely incompatible with the
original specifications. Why? They say because their ideas are better. But
in reality it's because at the very least, they know that by doing so, it
will muddy the waters and confuse the end consumer.

I heard this said about Microsoft recently regarding the net. "They arrive
late to the party and expect everyone else to dance to their tune." Only in
Sony's case, it wasn't even their party and like a vindictive school bully,
they are attempting to sway things to their advantage.

Sadly for the most part, it's working. And I'm not surprised that people
are getting crushed by them.

Be absolutely Icebox.
