Shielding Lifted Patch Cables - criticism needed

I don't break my cable shields... I isolate every device from the rack with
nylon shoulder washers... and use a single point AC distribution system. I'm
Happy.
(I think the quality of the cabels helped, but if you dodn't actually break
the ground completly then the shield connection at one side may be of little
extra benefit. Do you always ppatch the cable with the shield connected at
the "transmitting" end (most common) or just random ???
