quite, yes. Otherwise the drill will be bend, and finally break.
Just look at it while drilling.  I used a simple plastic stand for years,
no problems. I always used FR4, no problems. The Proxon metal stand is
better for metal plates, enough force...

Are you sure that you choose the right rpm?

btw.: I don't think that Pertinax base material is much healthier than
FR4 or other glass epoxy. There's also toxic dust, and they smell awfull,
even if no work is done (gases, Formaldehyd (sp?)).
