stomp box housing sources?

Farnell carries alu boxes, really robust, sealed.

In the past there were quite stable products (I bought a Roland
distortion pedal, completely alu molded) which sound really bad
or are broken. Why not use them? If you pay 20$ for a
broken unit, can you make a new design for less?
