Metal can package question...

I have been working on an ASM-1 myself. I am NOT in anyway an expert on
this but with that disclaimer I will say teh following. I looked at the
schematic for the the MAT-02 and checked it against the ASM-1 schematic and
followed the traces on the PCB and decided the MAT-02 must go with the tab
pointing up towards the top of the board ( you would be holding the board with
the power supply on the right and VCOs on the left ).
The the other little transister guy is kinda sandwiched in a bad spot I had
to kinda bend his leads and install him at an angle to make it fit above that
2200pf polyester cap.I followed the same procedure when placing this transister
of checking the pin out for the transister and matching it against the
schematic and then following the traces on the board. On mine the tab ended up
facing up again but I used a 2N4391.
I got a pair of MAT-02s as samples from analog devices for free what a
great deal. does anyone know how often they will do this? Its not that I want
to finagle these guys but these parts seem hard to get and expensive. The
samples came in about a week with little effort on my part and it looks like I
might need a few more for my next project.
