I don't do these boxes... so that should make my opinion more informed :^)
Separate Pitch-bend outputs can be more accurate than Software controlled, for a
given DAC. If we picture midi, that's a 7 bit number for note plus a ??? 14 bit
pitchbend (its two bytes isn't it?). Add these together and you'd need a much
better DAC, but if you sum them offboard, a cheap DAC will do. And the Scale
Factor for bend is important, was that one whole step, or one octave ??? This is
a simple attenuator in hardware.
In software you need a good user interface...
OTOH: If you have a Computer sitting next to your synth... then why not do it
all in software !!!
